While Big D’s rapid economic growth drove the city’s economy back into recession, in 2011 the real-estate giant purchased more than 200 acres in St. Paul’s heartland, one of the largest in the country. The largest purchase of the bunch came from the developer of the former McDonald’s, which it bought in 2008 for $4.8 million, for an investment of $19 million.
